As you may have read on my recent article for talkandroid.com, o2 have begun 4G trials in Slough. Using a 4G dongle on a regular laptop speeds of up to 80Mbps were achieved, and this from a coffee shop in the middle of town.
Page load speeds were compared to that of early broadband of around 15 seconds, with the 4G connection loading pages in around 1 second.

So what does this mean for mobile phones? For demo purposes the 4G signal was routed through wifi, and using an iPhone4 the results were very impressive indeed.
In late August o2 will begin a trial of a low band 4G signal, it is thought that this signal will penetrate further and give a larger footprint from the towers, this could mean that hard to reach areas that have not experienced broadband, could soon enjoy 4G speeds and connectivity.
Huawei, a Chinese tech company, are already trialing 5G in china.
