Top 10 iPhone games

1. Bloons Tower Defence
2. Doodle Jump
3. We Rule
4. God Finger
5. Tap Defence
6. Dactyle
7. Gun Range
8. Little Metal Ball
9. Doodle Bomb
10. Blue Block

1. Bloons tower defence

I first played this game on the laptop and loved it so the first thing I did when I got the iPhone was search for this and download it. The aim of the game is to build towers to pop all the bloons that come at you. You can build many different towers and also upgrade them. There is a free version but it is limited with levels that you can play or you could purchase the full version for £1.79.

2. Doodle Jump

This is one of the most addictive games out at the moment. I first played this on my girlfriends 3GS and shortly after got it for myself.  In the game all you have to do is bounce on the platforms and get as high as you can. Along the way you can get things to help you such as rocket packs. You also come across aliens at this point you tap the screen to shoot them. As I said it's highly addictive and is only 59p in the app store so is great value for money.

3. We Rule

This is a game that is free to download. In this game you plant crops and build shops. The higher the level the better the crops and buildings. If your friends also play this game you can link their farm with yours and you will be able to visit their farm and place orders at there shops.

4. God Finger

This game is like we rule in the way that you have to build things like farms. But the difference with god finger is that you control your followers and you have to place them on building and they will work to earn you gold. When you build certain buildings you get more followers you also get more gold and followers by completing task that are set for you. When your followers work on buildings they become tired so you have to rest them when they need it. As the title states your finger is good you make it rain/sun/thunder etc.

5. Tap Defence

Tap defence is a vert good free tower defence game. This is by far the best free tower defence game available at the moment. It has lots of different maps and difficulties. You can build many different towers and upgrade them to be better.

6. Dactyle

This is also a very addictive game. In the game you have a 4x3 grid of bombs all you do is tap the bomb when it is red. It slowly gets faster and faster making the game harder. The amount of bombs you tap is the score you get when you die.
This is free to download so is really worth it for passing the time. There is also dactyle 2 out for £1.79.

7. Eliminate:Gun Range

This is a very good game if you like shooters. You Start the game with an m60 machine gun. All you have to do is shoot the targets as the pop up. You control the crosshair using the iPhone by tilting it. With the iPhone 4 the game can also use the gyroscope to make it more reactive to your movements. Each gun has 12 missions and you can unlock new guns with the credits you get from completing the missions. This is a great game to pass the time. At first it is a little sensitive but you get use to it. This is free to download at the moment so I would get it while you can.

8. Little Metal Ball

This is a puzzle game where you guide the little metal ball around the maze by tilting the iPhone in the direction you want it to go. There are different zones to complete all with 10 levels. It's a simple game but very fun to play and a good game to pass the time. There is a lite version for free or the full game is £1.19 there is also a gold version for £1.79.

9. Doodle Bomb

This is a simple game all you have to do is flick the bombs into a certain place to open the doors. The levels then get harder and harder until you find yourself sucked in trying to get past this one level that you are stuck on. There is a free version with limited missions or the full game for £1.19.

10. Blue Block

The aim of the game is simple you slide the blocks out of the way to free the blue block. It is simple to start with and gets harder there are different difficulty to make it more challenging. But it does become very addictive. There is a lite version or the full game is 59p so well worth the money.

So there it is that's my top 10 games for the iPhone. But the thing is that because app store is ever growing it will not be long before there is a whole new top 10.

So thanks for reading and hope it helps you enjoy your iPhone more.

Dell Streak teaser running 2.1!

On a vlog on YouTube, Dell's Kevin Andrew shows of the Dell streak running 2.1! Dell still say that releasing 2.2 is their aim, but have not hinted either way if 2.1 will be a temporary release option prior to froyo (2.2)

Check out the video at
www.YouTube.com/watch?v=M9-kwm9GbQ

Also in the video Kevin Andrews does his demo stuff using a cherry red streak, this colour was rumoured for release at the end of July, but kevin tweeted that this would now not be the case, shame the thing looks awesome in red!

So again as with all promised 2.1, 2.2 updates still official date, but at least we have seen from the OEM and not an unofficial hack.

Moving on

So I'm moving on, I found out this week that I'm going to be moving to o2 milton Keynes, midsummer place as the guru for the store. Really looking forward to my new store, working with a new team, and to be helping sort out those niggling customer problems. Would like to say a big thank you to the team I currently work with, I really appreciate all your help and encouragement!

Also this week I have started to talk to a great guy by the name of Scott Young, who is editor in chief of talkandroid.com, he put a tweet out for people to write for the site, so I replied, he checked out the blog, liked what he read, and after some great advice from Scott my first article was posted a few days back!

Hopefully this is the first of many, but it's early days and we will see what happens.

Video call!

So my son was lucky enough to get an iPhone4 on launch day, and he was desperate to facetime someone, but with no other iPhone4 owners about he sadly couldn't. :(

I have been using Fring on my iPhone 3G for a while, but with no fron camera I turned to the dell streak, we installed the recent update from fring that enables video calls and we give it whirl!

I called him via fring and we had a fairly seemless and fluid video call, sound and picture
s worked well, and the quality was very good, we were both on fairly good 3G connections, and overall all it was quite impressive.

Nexus One RIP

So the google nexus one is no more, at least you can no longer get it direct from google. It's a real shame that this device is no longer with us, as I think it represents the starting point for the massive uptake of the android OS as a whole. This device really showed what android could do and established the OS as a real contender. New OS versions always landed on the nexus first and this helped to maintain it as the device of choice for many, it was the purist android experience and it's difficult to know whats going to replace it. Does this mean that hardware specs may be tightened to allow easier upgrades? That OEM skins will be changed, to allow quicker upgrades? What ever happens, thanks nexus one, for everything

iReal SmS Review Available on Cydia

So my iPhone 3g has been jailbroken for a few months now, and I am really starting to love the host of new features and apps in both Cydia and Rock stores. Today I am going to talk about iReal SmS, probably the best app I have found to date.

(Cydia Logo)

One of the first things I wanted to do when I jailbroke my iPhone was to multi task. It was mainly to have a better way to deal with SMS, as this was the main reason I would have to leave an app, always going out and replying then back in, not good. But then I found iReal SmS, this app allows you to recieve SMS without interupting what you are doing, aswell as displaying contact pictures on the messages and other things.

The main feature of this app is that when you recieve a text it is displayed in it's own text box and comes up on top of what your doing, from the box you can reply, view or close the message, if you choose to reply you can also call the person who sent you the message. The box allows the inclusion of emoticons and pictures and you never have to leave the box! All messages recieved are updated in the messages app, and an IReal SmS message app appears, you can choose which one you use as default.

I can't tell you enough how much difference this app makes, so much so that I have taken off all the multi-tasking apps that I had.

This is a paid app but well worth the money!

o2 to respond on Monday to apple press conference

So after a fairly hectic Saturday at o2, I thought I would take a moment to communicate what we have been told about the reaction to Apples press conference. As the reaction to the announcement was going around yesterday o2 tweeted that it would take the weekend to review the situation and issue an update on Monday. It was also stated not to contact stores or customer services until then, but that didn't happen! Judging by the time it took to get through today alot of people called, and we also had a few customers upgrading to iPhone4 who felt they were entitled to a free case. So wait till Monday for an update, and I will post it as soon as I can.

Free case anyone?

iPhone4Image by starstreak007 via Flickr
So apple went ahead and did the unthinkable, they have promised to give all iPhone4 users a free case, and extent that offer until 30th September, and if you have already purchased a case then they will refund the cost. This is a huge play by apple, and they have to be commended for it, some estimates put the cost of giving each customer a free case at $30 million, so this is a huge undertaking. Hopefully this will go some way to restoring their reputation, I personally think this was the right thing to do, bravo apple, and thanks

Apple Press Conference

At approximately 6pm gmt apple will hold a press conference to talk about the iPhone4 and it's issues, will they order a mass recall? Will they give every iPhone4 owner a free bumper case? Or will they just demonstrate how to hold it properly? Either way it will be interesting to see what actually unfolds, and how they are going to stop this media circus spiralling further out of control. I personally have yet to experience this siganl issue, and even the folks I have talked to say that when it drops signal it can still make call where their 3gs couldn't. That said I have seen a few proximity issues and general freezing.

I have heard a rumour that the production of the phones will be altered to include a clear non-conductive covering of the antenna, to eliviate the
issue and stop the signal drop. Watch this space will attempt to blog the outcome as it happens.

Android

Android robot logo.Image via Wikipedia
As i mentioned in a previous post, I am very tempted by the dell streak, and android.  I have been an iPhone user since the first gen, and never though i would switch.  I love the UI but found myself getting board of the phone, and after eventually jailbreaking found several more reasons to be unhappy.  By this i mean the things i had been missing pre jailbreak, simple things like different text tones and ring tone, something i took for granted 5 years ago on the many dumb phones i had then.

So Android, i like the openness and the hacking community, and i am really tempted to switch, the recent iPhone4 issues and apples response to them has me thinking that now is a good time to change.  The Dell Streak appeals, and so does that device running 2.1 or 2.2 android, promised for later this year.

So what do i do? still not entirely sure, get a great deal from o2 on both, but does mean a 2 year contract.  I will continue to ponder, I'm off tomorrow to help a customer with getting the most out of his streak, so will get some good hands on time with it.  Hopefully I can decide soon as i really want to change to something, question is what?

P

IPhone4 antenna issues rumble on.

So the continuing saga of the antenna issue rumbles on, are you experiencing it? We have 4 demo iPhone4's, well 3 now due to a theft! And none of our units display the fault, my son who cued from 4am on launch day to get one, his doesn't do it. We have sold well over 100 phones and had none back for the issue, but we have had plenty of questions about it. Engadget posted a great peice about it today, check it out using the link on the left, they have told of their own experiences and those of fellow tech journalists, and there are lots of variables, but not that many cases of dropped signal. The issue does appear worse in poor signal areas, and doesn't really seem to happen that often if at all with decent signal. Bottom line is don't let this put you off, if you were thinking of getting a case anyway then you shouldn't have any problems.
